Always such great insights, Kay. And the prompt is such a good idea. Walk through the destination and see how it feels, responses and vibe.

Much of what I have learned about destinations and community is from living in the Yucatan and watching it develop, and leaving the smaller businesses behind.

Kay, it was a perfect case study! I was just reminiscing w. a friend from Tankah this past week about how we all who arrived in QRoo early witnessed (and enjoyed) so so much. And with Loco Gringo, simply spot on and in the exact right place at the right time—you basically created a model for tourism in the south bay. You had excellent website presence, Akumal had some tourism presence prior to Loco Gringo, just enough to give it oomph and gravitas. Beautiful location. And your excellent mktg. As I’ve mentioned before, along with Chili Dog, the coolers were genius! In Tankah my friends started w/ generators at their land, then moved ‘up’ to solar panels! All so very worth it. You could document it all w/ your tourism efforts. Sad about the smaller businesses. I’ve been reading that in Tulum Times so much of late. But I think they’ve been gone for some time now. Big dog has moved in.

Oh, thank you for the praise. It was the right place, right time, right message, and most of all, right intent.

Funny story, the coolers. When I did that, a marketing firm in NYC told me that it was the dumbest idea they had ever heard. I think we sent coolers out for over 10 years! People still send me photos of themselves with the coolers.

LG's success, I believe, also hinged on the fact that we held up the little guys, showed the spotlight on them, featured the culture, people, and environment with appreciation and respect.

Much of what drives me now is based on my experiences in the Riviera Maya, from 60 km of coastline to a world-class destination. And the lessons I learned from it all.

Very welcome. Yes, intent, but you guys had that in spades. And yes, small said it all back then. And that was a big part of the attraction along w/ the drop dead backdrop ): How funny about the NYC firm. I love that the cooler crowd became kind of a 'club' of those that had come down through LG. And what a great palette for you to do a test drive. From nada to todo. Saludos! And fond memories.
