Voices from the Field
Selected voices sharing experience from across hospitality and tourism.
Voices from the Field shares lessons and observations from people working across hospitality and tourism.
These pieces draw from real experience running properties, guiding visitors, managing destinations, and supporting tourism businesses.
Most contributors write from years of hands-on experience in hospitality and tourism.
The goal is simple: to share what people working in hospitality and tourism are actually seeing.
Hospitality works best when trust exists between guests, businesses, communities, and the destinations they share.
Voices from the Field explores how people across the industry build and maintain that trust.
Hospitality rarely operates in isolation. Properties, guides, restaurants, destinations, and communities all shape how visitors experience a place.
Editorial Principles
Voices from the Field reflects the editorial approach of Trust in Hospitality.
We believe the most valuable industry insights come from people working directly with guests, communities, and tourism businesses.
Pieces we publish typically share:
real experiences from the field
specific observations rather than general opinions
practical lessons others in hospitality can use
perspectives that strengthen trust between visitors, businesses, and communities
The goal is not to produce trend reports or commentary, but to document what people working in hospitality and tourism are seeing.
Why Contribute
Voices from the Field gives people working in hospitality and tourism a place to share what they are seeing and learning with peers across the industry.
Contributors often write to:
share lessons from their own experience
highlight changes or challenges they are seeing
contribute to the broader conversation about how hospitality works
help others in the industry learn from real situations
Many contributors also find that writing a field note helps clarify what they have learned through their work.

We welcome articles from people working across hospitality and tourism, including:

Many contributors come from independent hospitality businesses and destinations, though voices from across the industry are welcome.
Topics We’re Especially Interested In
Strong submissions often explore patterns that affect how hospitality and tourism work.
Examples include:
how tourism works better when residents, businesses, and visitors trust each other
what visitors often misunderstand about a place
how properties build trust with guests
how destinations and communities work together
lessons learned from running a hospitality business
changes you’re seeing in traveler behavior
small decisions that make hospitality easier to run
We are especially interested in insights that connect guests, businesses, and communities.
What Makes a Strong Submission
Good pieces usually include:
one clear observation from real experience
a specific example or situation
a takeaway others in hospitality can learn from
Pieces should read like experience shared with peers, not marketing copy.
Style and Tone
We prefer writing that is:
clear and conversational
grounded in real examples
accessible to businesses of all sizes
focused on the hospitality ecosystem
Avoid:
sales pitches
promotional articles
press releases
generic industry commentary
The best pieces sound like someone saying:
“Here’s something we’ve been seeing that others might find useful.”
What We Don’t Publish
Voices from the Field is an editorial section, not a marketing platform.
We do not publish:
promotional articles about a company or service
product announcements or press releases
articles written primarily to generate backlinks
generic industry commentary without real experience
Pieces should focus on experience, observations, and lessons from the field.
Length
Most pieces are 600–1,200 words.
Shorter insights are welcome when the idea is clear and practical.
Pitch First
Before writing a full article, we recommend sending a short pitch.
Tell us briefly:
what you’re seeing in your work
why others in hospitality might find it useful
the main idea you’d like to share
Send pitches to: kay@smartpineapple.ai or message me.
If the topic is a good fit, we’ll invite you to develop the full piece.
Editorial Process
Submissions are reviewed before publication.
Light edits may be made for clarity, length, and consistency with the publication’s style. Major changes are always discussed with the author.
Author Credit
Contributors receive:
author credit and short bio
a link to your organization or website
Before Pitching
Before pitching an idea, we recommend reading a few recent posts to understand the tone of the publication.
One Final Note
Hospitality and tourism work best when people in the industry share what they are learning.
Voices from the Field exists to make those lessons visible.
Not theory.
Not trend reports.
Just experience and insights from the field.
If you’re seeing something interesting in your corner of hospitality and tourism and aren’t sure whether it fits, feel free to message me.
